Residential camp is a unique experience that benefits the growth and development of children and youth. Although counsellors and directors serve as the adult figures, children who attend HOC find they are required to make their own decisions in the course of the day and become self-reliant. They pick out their clothes for activities, they help clean their cabins and most importantly they determine their level of participation in camp programming. This helps campers quickly realize the importance of participation and responsibility, which helps in the development of their self-esteem and character.
Activities are structured to ensure that individuals stay involved and interact with other campers. Social skills and friendships result from teamwork and support that campers provide to each other.
Camp life is the foundation that ties all of the activities and programs together at Hockey Opportunity Camp. There is magic to camp life that turns activities into experiences, cabin bunkmates into friends and young children into self-confident individuals.
Our camp is about people in motion – learning, sharing and enjoying. It is a self-contained community where memories are formed by experiences shared with friends and staff. One of the features of our camp is the diversity of those living in the community. We attract children from across Canada, the United States and abroad. Developing relationships with children from around the world is an important part of our camper’s experience. Our community provides campers with an opportunity to learn about each other’s differences, but more importantly about their similarities.
