Summer wages vary depending on age, qualifications and experience of applicants. Room and board is included
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 19 years of age and completed at least one year of a summer camp relevant post secondary program. (Paramedic / EMT, Nursing, Education)
- Recommended minimum of Bronze Cross or NLS swimming qualification
- Currently holding an advanced or instructor level Emergency First Aid and CPR certificate
- Must possess valid driver’s license.
- Genuine interest in working with children
- Experience working with children of varied ages. Specific camp experience an asset
- Must be enthusiastic, energetic, and positive
- Exceptional communication skills – verbal and written
- Highly organized
- Must have a proactive “can do “ attitude
- Ability to work well withal levels of employees
- Strong customer service orientation
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY:
- Provide care to our campers that reflect the standards and guidelines of the Hockey Opportunity Camp Code of Conduct
- Be the main source of communication between parents and campers when campers are at camp.
- Dealing one on one with camper parents via phone and/or email.
- Ensure that safety and health regulations are strictly adhered to
- Assist Nurse/Doctor with supervising Health Centre and medication inventory.
- Ensure that campers and staff with birthdays are properly recognized.
- Be an active participant in the camp community.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITY:
- Manage and proactively resolve parent inquiries & requests ensuring efficient and timely response to email and telephone enquires on a daily basis.
- Maintain daily “Parent Communication Log” recording all requests and inquiries from the parent community and subsequent actions and resolutions.
- Provide continuous camper status updates with camp Directors for all campers of “concern”.
- Participate twice daily in individual action plans for campers of concern related to health or behaviour with camp Directors & relevant coordinating staff.
- Proactively communicate with parents of campers requiring the services of the Health Care Team for incidents of a more serious nature. Including initial contact, regular status updates and the campers return to regular program.
- Manage the identification of new campers at Sunday check in, verifying correct contact and emergency contact information of the camper (phone/email).
- Support the execution of the First 48 HR Program ensuring photograph and email is sent to parent of first time campers during their first 48 hours at camp.
- Assist the Nurse/Doctor with daily, bedtime and evening routines when needed.
- Assist the Nurse/Doctor to ensure that campers and staff with specific medical needs are properly cared for.
- When required, travel to arena to assist hockey staff with any medical or first aid issues.
- Assist in providing a basic overview of First Aid procedures during Orientation week and staff meetings as required
- Maintain all First Aid Kits and Epi Pens
- Assist in first aid and medical problems as required
- Daily cabin inspections and ranking. Organize cabin clean up award at the end of each week
- Assume a leadership role in the preparation, execution and follow-up of Emergency Response Procedures/Crisis Management with the Nurse/Doctor and Director, co-ordinate the Emergency Response and Spinal Teams
- Transport campers to clinic appointments and to the hospital/Urgent Care facility as required
- Other duties as assigned.
