Leader in Training (LIT)

LIT PROGRAM IS FULL FOR 2012

Here at HOC, we believe that staff development begins with candidates who are eager to build their leadership experience, have an interest in the camp community and show strong initiative. Does this sound like you?

If so, please read on….

The LIT program is designed to provide potential staff with an introduction to the structure of camp and various job responsibilities and expectations. More importantly, the program provides candidates with character building and leadership training. Candidates familiarize themselves with different leadership styles and further experience the many principles and skills required to be their own great leader. Skills that are reviewed include time management, role models, self-confidence, communication, organization and goal setting.

Although they are given many tools to get them started, candidates are also given independence to express their own personal style and positive attitude. Please note that LITs do not have the opportunity to skate or assist on ice activities at the rink during this week.

Participants in the LIT program will have the opportunity to earn their Emergency First Aid & CPR, as well as their Bronze Medallion Certification through the Royal Life Saving Society. Due to time constraints in the LIT week candidates will work on their First Aid & CPR portion during the optional time periods in their Senior camp week without affecting the core programming. These certifications will better prepare them for the CIT program and a potential future as a HOC staff member.

During the final day of the session (Saturday), each LIT participates in an evaluation session to discuss their personal leadership achievements and performance over the week. Parents are encouraged to be present for this session.
