Job Title: General Camp Programs Coordinator
Report To: Camp Director/Assistant Director
Number of Positions Available: 1
Working as a member of the HOC coordinating team, the General Camp Programs Coordinator’s job is to plan and facilitate all camp special events, including all-camps, camp-fires and tournaments. The General Camp Programs Coordinator will also be responsible for the facilitation all Camp Only programs. This would involve creating weekly schedules for each Camp Only section and ensuring the program is executed to the highest standard.
The General Camp Programs Coordinator would also be responsible for assisting the Counsellor Coordinator as well as the Staff Development Coordinator when required.
In addition, all coordinators must adhere to three general expectations;
Role Model in the Camp Community
- Accept the responsibility to lead, motivate and evaluate staff in a positive environment.
- Accept the responsibility to personally abide by and enforce camp policies.
- Be a resource person for people with questions and concerns.
Supervisor and Evaluator of Camp Staff
- During supervisory shifts, accept the responsibility as “person in charge” for the safety of both campers and staff.
- Accept the shared responsibility in relieving a staff member of his/her duties should the need arise.
- Accept the responsibility to supervise staff activities on assigned Saturday nights.
- Accept the responsibility to train staff in your particular area on an ongoing basis.
- Be responsible for supervising and evaluating staff members working in your program area or under your supervision.
As a Leader of the Camp Community
- Participate fully in daytime and evening camp programs such as all-camps, campfires, family night and staff meetings etc.
- Demonstrate a genuine compassion and care for both the professional and personal development of members of the camp community.
- Make a personal commitment to your fellow Coordinators to communicate and assist each other to the best of your abilities.
- Understand that your leadership role transcends beyond specific duty hours and outside of our camp community.
EMPLOYMENT PERIOD:
Staff Orientation / Training: TBD
Employment Period: July 1st, 2012 – August 25th, 2012
WAGES:
Summer wages range from $3,200 – $4,000 per summer depending on qualifications and experience of applicants. Room and board is included.
RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 18 years of age.
- Currently enrolled in a college or university program with preferred study in Recreation Management, Education, Early Childhood Development, Physical Education or Personnel Management.
- Administrative background with experience in supervising peers.
- Experience working with children of varied ages in a supervisory or teaching situation. Specific camp experience an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate, evaluate and deal effectively with problem solving situations within the area of responsibility.
- Valid G driver’s license.
- Genuine interest in working with children in the community.
- Minimum Bronze Cross Award.
- Emergency First Aid and CPR certification.
- Must be enthusiastic, energetic and positive person.
- Must be willing to take part in camp related activities outside the defined job description.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY:
- Reinforce the camp philosophy, policies and standards by acting as a role model to the staff and being an active participant in the camp community.
- Provide leadership and guidance for the Camp Only staff as well as assume responsibility for their supervision and discipline.
- Accept responsibilities to schedule Camp Only timetables.
- Accept responsibility for all camp special events.
- Improve the effectiveness of the Camp Only program by establishing clear and concise goals.
- Sign and abide by Hockey Opportunity Camp’s Privacy Policy.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITY:
- Attend, organize and facilitate sessions and programming for Staff Orientation week in late June.
- Attend Monday morning coordinator meetings.
- Create weekly Camp Only schedules and supervise Camp Only program.
- Assume responsibility for All Camps and mini All Camps, which includes facilitating the organization and marketing of the events.
- Assume responsibility for organizing themes and attending all Friday campfires, as well as supervising staff who are working their duty weekend at the campfire.
- Assume a leadership role when it comes to organizing schedules and planning Family Nights on the Fridays of weeks 3 and 6.
- Ensure that all sections run tournaments / intramurals and collect winners at the end of each week.
- Assist with Saturday check out when assigned
- Assist with Sunday camper registration.
- Assist the Counsellor Coordinator when required.
- Assist the Staff Development Coordinator when required.
- Attend all and facilitate one Thursday evening staff meeting.
- Make any transportation runs (ie. Clinic / hospital) that are required, provided that you are free at the time.
- Supervise camp and holdovers two Saturday Nights in the summer and coach’s corner on one night a week.
- Complete coordinator report and update program manual at the end of the summer.
- Coordinators get one night off per week and every other Saturday off. This is scheduled with the Camp Director at the beginning of the summer.
- Other duties as assigned.
