Counsellor-in-Training (CIT)

Both the July and August CIT sessions are FULL.

Although not a prerequisite, it is strongly recommended that all CIT applicants complete the HOC Leader in Training (LIT) program or equivalent (at other camp/organization). Individuals must have completed grade 10 and have a serious interest in working with children in order to qualify for this program.

The CIT program is a four-week residential session that prepares candidates to work effectively with children in a camp community. During the session, candidates receive training in areas such as leadership, mentoring, counseling and activity instruction.

Under the direction of a Staff Development Coordinator, the program is also designed to develop the interpersonal and professional skills of each participant. Other skills that are formed include; self esteem, self-confidence, communication, organization and goal setting.

Participants will be given a choice of professional development certifications to strive towards within the program. Candidates will have an opportunity to work towards their Bronze Medallion / Bronze Cross swimming certifications through the Royal Life Saving Society.
