Job Title: Camp Counsellor
Report To: Section Head
Number of Positions Available: 25
Counsellors are the ones who work most closely with our campers and supervise them each evening in their cabins, when they are in camp, at meals or during their activities. Counsellors also either teach or assist Activity Instructors with campers in-camp activity classes. Counsellors require many different personal and professional skills, which determine their best fit with an age group at camp.
Those who are responsible for younger children require a high level of maturity and “parent like” sensibilities allowing them to deal with such matters as homesickness and bedtime. They are required to facilitate one-on-one attention and continually find creative solutions for keeping campers occupied and having fun.
Counsellors who are responsible for older children require strong communication and discipline skills. A strong understanding of the camper’s interests and preferred activities is crucial to ensuring the camper has a fun and productive time at camp.
